AAA Revises Cost of Car Ownership Figures

The American Automobile Association released new figures regarding the cost of car ownership. The cost to drive a medium sedan 15,000 miles per year is $7967. This figure includes taxes insurance, registration operating costs and depreciation. It does NOT include finance charges. Per mile, AAA says the cost is $.522. A sport utility vehicle cost $.65 per mile. A compact car costs $.42 per mile. If you drive only 10,000 miles per year, you can expect your cost per mile to go up by about 10 to 15 cents per mile because of the fixed-cost component of ownership.
