Where Would General Motors Be Without the United Automobile Workers Union? - Mises Institute

Is the UAW to Blame for the GM Mess?

George Reisman of the Ludwig Von Mises Instutite, a Libertarian or "classically liberal" institution, has written an essay that places the UAW at the core of everything that is wrong with General Motors.

I never really cared for "wussy" writing (even though I've been guilty of it myself), and nobody can accuse George Reisman of "wussy" writing in this essay/editorial. For example, Reisman writes:

Few things are more obvious than that the role of the UAW in relation to General Motors has been that of a swarm of bloodsucking leeches, a swarm that will not stop until its prey exists no more.

As a lawyer writing for a group of lawyers, I resent Reisman's use of the term "bloodsucking leeches." The UAW workers have not passed the bar. They are not attorneys; therefore, it is inappropriate to call autoworkers "bloodsucking leeches". If we give up ground on the the term "leeches", are we that much closer to losing the battle for "weasel"?
