Next Step in the GM Restructuring Plan: "Black Tuesday"
Hundreds of Salaried Employers to Get the Boot

I'm sure a lot of work is getting done in the General Motors engineering offices today. The water cooler has to be buzzing about what's going to happen next Tuesday, already being called "Black Tuesday" according to the Detroit News. GM has indicated that it is going to lay off hundreds of salaried workers.

Have you ever wondered what union membership is worth? A mid-career UAW member is being offered $140,000 to leave. According to the Detroit News, in the last layoff, salaried engineers were called at home, told their employment was terminated, and had their "health benefits abruptly discontinued."
