Asians bet on minivan resurgence - 02/09/06 - The Detroit News

Asian Minivans Attack!
New Hyundai Entourage and Nissan Quest models at Chicago

Hyundai and Nissan both showed off their new minivans at the Chicago auto show. This is Hyundai's first minivan, and it is closely related to the redesigned Kia Sedona. It has all the usual features including a rear fold-flat seat. Hyundai's initial sales projections are conservative: just 30,000 units.

Nissan admits it missed the mark with the current Nissan Quest minivan which debuted in 2004. Nissan characterizes this as a mid-model freshening, but one that is fairly extensive. Some of the edgy styling has been toned down, and the instruments have been moved from the center to the left in the US models. Nissan also says that it worked hard to remedy quality control problems that have plagued the Quest. Is this enough to turn a near-miss into a hit? We'll see.
