Ford Prices Fusion below Hyundai Sonata

Ford has tentatively set the base price of its new mainstream Fusion sedan at $17,995, surprisingly, about $500 lower than the Hyundai Sonata.

According to the article linked below from thecarconnection.com, Ford's pricing decision was partially based on consumer surveys taken on the web. Ford wants to avoid a pricing disaster such as that suffered by Chyrsler when Chrysler loaded its early Pacificas with pricey options, and priced itself right out of the market.

It remains to be seen whether Ford will match the Hyundai on standard equipment, especially safety equipment. The Sonata comes with side and door airbags, traction control and stability control standard. These items are traditionally options on cars below mid-market.
