Ford to take the T-Bird Away
Ford Thunderbird production is set to end in July 2005. If you are a T-bird owner, this is good news, because it will help with resale value. If you are an employee at the Wixom MI plant, it's not so good news. The plant is already underutilized and the loss of even a modest 12,000-20,000 veh/year won't help things. The current vehicles that share the plant, the Lincoln LS and Towncar, don't have and won't have what it takes to save the plant in the long term.
IMHO Ford needs to chop the price of the Lincoln LS by about 20%. It is a good car that is vastly overpriced. When it was new in 1999, it competed well against the BMW 5 series. Two subsequent rennovations of the Bimmer have made such comparisons a joke.
